JOURNEY, BURGER RECEPTION SHOP IN THE CHIAIA DISTRICT
It's not easy to find omnivorous cuisine places that also make good plant-based products.
Thanks to an invitation reserved for the press, however, we discovered a valid exception, a recently opened sandwich shop: Journey.
Hambo is the first "burger bookshop" in the city of Naples, a place that offers Italianized street food by combining a sandwich with each wheel of the lottery; each sandwich presents the characteristics of the city it is associated with.
HISTORY
Hambo inaugurated last 15 settembre.
The minds behind this sandwich bookshop are Crispino Teeth and Gennaro Natale, pharmaceutical chemists passionate about gastronomy, already founders of Upnea Mediterranean Charcuterie nel centro storico cittadino.
The idea of recreating a lottery office was born from the deep connection between Neapolitan culture and gaming, the cabala, the grimace and the luck. As chance would have it, the walls of the place also housed a tobacconist-bookshop in the past, but the two entrepreneurs had a clear vision of the concept from the beginning.
This one in the Chiaia neighborhood is the number one burger shop 001, because it is not excluded that there will be others in the future.
At Hambo everything revolves around the grimace and the lottery: from the claim "Taste makes 90" to the most significant numbers reported on the walls such as 50 (“’o ppane”), the 49 (“’o piezz’e meat”) and the 72 (“Wonderfully”).
JOURNEY, THE LOCAL
The location was chosen on purpose: Piazzetta Ascensione is not a place of passage, you have to go there on purpose. The visit to Hambo must therefore be targeted and intentional.
Hambo's dominant colors are yellow and blue, which were the ones used in the old lottery offices.
The structure is suitable for both take-away and in-house consumption, with some seating both inside and outside. The home delivery service is also active.
It is worth underlining the great attention the place pays to environmental impact, with the exclusive use of compostable materials for all tableware and packaging.
JOURNEY, THE PROPOSAL
The menu is divided into winning sandwiches, Multiple bets and lotto wheels.
I Winning sandwiches they are the simplest and best-selling, they have the hamburger as the protagonist and vary only by one additional ingredient; sono 4, i.e. Hambo, Therno, Quatherna and Quinthina, and can also be ordered in the form of a more convenient menu (with fresh cut chips and drink) defined Multiple play.
Furthermore there are the Wheels, which I am 10 like those in the lottery. Each wheel corresponds to a sandwich, inspired by the gastronomic traditions of that city or region, with vegetables and greens always in season. Ad esempio, in “N4poli” the protagonist is the sausage hamburger, in “Roma” there is porchetta, in the “Palermo” tuna breaded in corn, in “Venezia” there is cod.
Complete the menu there Wheel of the month, which varies throughout the year, following the calendar.
The bread is signed by the master leavener Charles DiChrist. A square bun created especially for Hambo is used for almost all buns, the shape of “panariello” of the bingo. Despite being tall, the bread is very light.
In the case of the “Milano” sandwich, a crunchy but at the same time very light ciabatta is used, called "folder" to stay on topic.
Each sandwich is also available in a gluten-free version.
Per scelta precisa, the sandwich is not plated, to allow you to enjoy the filling at its best.
Vegetables and greens from the farm Vincenzo Egizio they come from the Vesuvian area, synonymous with goodness since the volcanic soil is rich and fertile; the meats were selected by two specialists, lo chef Mirco Scognamiglio and the butcher Sabatino Cillo.
All breadings are made with gluten free corn flakes.
“Milano” is the vegan/veggie sandwich, in which the burger is made of polenta with mushrooms. In the vegan version, it is paired with raw and cooked escarole with capers and olives; in the vegetarian version, it is paired with gorgonzola and classic mayonnaise. We really liked both versions.
The “Torino” sweet sandwich is a brioche made by the pastry chef Giuseppe Ratto of Frattamaggiore (Naples), filled with gianduja and caramel.
In addition to the food part, Hambo's beverage section is also able to satisfy different palates. Wines by the glass, bianco (Falanghina) e rosso (Aglianico), they are both from the Nifo Sarrapochiello winery in Ponte (Benevento).
Hambo is open every day for lunch and dinner, on Sundays only for dinner. Come and try it to take a gastronomic journey around Italy without leaving the city.
