DONNA PAOLA ESTATE, AT ALIFE THE FIRST PURE CHARDONNAY FROM MATESE AND THE CALICI DI VITI PROJECT
In the heart of the Matese National Park there is a company where viticulture coexists, environmental reconversion and extractive activity: Donna Paola Estate to Alife.
An entrepreneurial project born from the intuition of Francesco Testa and his daughter Maria Pia Francesca, who have chosen to invest in an impervious territory, transforming its characteristics into a strong point.
Qui, close to a dolomite quarry involved in an environmental redevelopment project, the Chardonnay vines, Merlot and Sauvignon grow on the steep slopes of Colle Capasso; a slope that in the last century was home to the native Pallagrello, exported to the United States in a sparkling version.
A choice, that of international vines, dictated by the desire to achieve, in perspective, a classic method. Falanghina and Casavecchia complete the company's viticultural heritage, flanked by an olive grove dedicated to the Tonda del Matese cultivar.
It is in this scenario that it was held Glasses of Vines, the introductory wine course promoted by Coldiretti Caserta in collaboration with Tenuta Donna Paola, divided into five events held between June and July.
The review culminated with the presentation of Dolomieu of Tenuta Donna Paola, first pure Chardonnay from Matese. The name of the wine pays homage to Déodatus of Dolomite, the famous French geologist who first studied the composition of dolomite, the rock that characterizes the terrain of this area and helps to define its identity. A reminder that underlines the profound bond between wine and the soil from which it originates.
When tasted, Dolomieu stands out for its freshness, flavor and persistence. On the nose there are notes of white flowers, of green apple, of sweet spices and a light sensation of smoke.
The final evening of the cycle ended with a tasting of dishes prepared by Martino pasta factory of Alife and the Roman Conciato of the farmhouse Le Campestre di Castel di Sasso, followed by the pizza chef's freestyle performance Simone Zullo, World Champion Pizza Chef – Caputo Cup, who proposed marinara with extra virgin olive oil from Matese and oregano from Matese, the same recipe with which he won the world title.
The Calici di Viti training course was managed by the Coldiretti section of Alife, under the supervision of the manager Giusy Loffreda and the journalist Adele Consola.
The large participation recorded in this first edition confirms the interest in dissemination initiatives dedicated to wine and the territory, and paves the way for new projects.
